Chinese School K-12

Chinese School Program

The school offers a variety of Chinese education programs designed to meet the diverse needs and learning objectives of every student and family. We ensure students achieve fluency in Mandarin language acquisition while fully exploring the rich and colorful world of Chinese culture and art. The program offers Chinese language instruction to students ages 5-16 at all proficiency levels, from beginners to advanced learners, with flexible scheduling options to fit your family's needs: K-8 on weekdays, K-12 on weekends, and K-6 during the summer.

Weekend Chinese School (K-12)

Serving the Orange County community since 1976, the weekend Chinese School celebrates 50 years of service and is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) Supplementary Education Center/Program until June 2027, certifying it as a trustworthy public institution of learning. The school's weekend program offers flexible scheduling for school-age students, with four class times to choose from, Saturday (morning/afternoon) and Sunday (morning/afternoon). The program teaches the full range of language skills, from foundational phonetics and grammar to active listening, speaking, reading, writing, and conversation practice.

The programs are offered in three distinct Mandarin courses, catering to the diverse needs of families and students.

  • 繁體 注音: Traditional Chinese written characters, and Zhuyin Fuhao (Bopomofo) as phonetic system. The Heritage Traditional Chinese course caters to Mandarin-speaking households by focusing on traditional Chinese characters and Zhuyin phonics..
  • 简体 拼音: Simplifoed Chinese written character, and Pinyin (Latin alphabet ) as phonetic system. Heritage Simplified Chinese is for families that speak Mandarin at home and want to learn simplified characters and the pinyin system.
  • 繁體 拼音: Chinese as Second Language: Traditional Chinese written characters, and Pinyin (Latin alphabet ) as phonetic system. The Chinese as a Second Language course serves learners from non-Mandarin-speaking households.

Weekday Chinese Program (K-8)

To support students with busy weekends, our school offers weekday after-school Chinese classes that provide consistent language learning and rich cultural experiences. Students receive four hours of weekly instruction, including Chinese homework support, in a safe and caring environment.

We offer multiple levels of Chinese language and cultural enrichment courses for students from kindergarten to grade eight. Language classes are held on Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays, with Fridays dedicated to reinforcement and cultural arts. The program uses Pinyin and includes both traditional and simplified character instruction. Teaching materials are available in either version according to parent preference.
